If you made a list of the most iconic vehicles ever produced by BMW, the BMW M3 E30 (3 Series) would be at the top. After all, it was BMW’s first M3, a sports sedan that ushered in a new era for BMW. Over a five-year period, BMW produced 18,000 BMW E30 M3s worldwide — and only 786 cabriolets. This is one of them.
Because of its low production numbers, every E30 M3 cabriolet was assembled by hand. According to the BMW M registry, its body was supplied by the E30 M3 assembly lines. Then the car was sent to the BMW M Garching facility, where it was fitted with its special drivetrain, chassis and interior.
Produced between 1988 and 1991, the original M3 cabriolets were built to European specification and never exported to the U.S. BMW created three different versions of the cabriolet. This one just happens to be a final model year E30, which means it was one of 476 M3 E30 cabriolets that received BMW’s more powerful S14 engine — an engine capable of churning out an awe-inspiring 215-horsepower.
Vehicle History
This one-owner car shown here was originally delivered in Germany. Records indicate that it was always serviced according to the warranty booklet.
M3 Performance
The original E30 M3 was a racing homologation model. Its engine was part F1 and part M1 — a track car that relished the sport of the everyday drive. Its powerful engine, stiff suspension and quick handling are qualities that continue to define those that share its M3 bloodline.
Design
The E30 M3 cabriolet combines the open-air body style of the stock E30 cabriolet and aggressive lines of the E30 M3 sedan. Its elegantly appointed interior features leather-trimmed seating with M-tricolor stripes, and door panels with the cabriolet’s unique diagonal stitching. Heated front seats keep things comfortable while the M steering wheel and instrument panel offer unparalleled connection to the driving experience.
Technology
This M3 E30 convertible is fully loaded with the best of 90s tech: power convertible top, heated front seats, on-board computer and a radio BMW Bavaria C Business with BMW sound system. Just pop in your favorite mixtape, put the top down and take that long-awaited joyride.
